Kirz’s versatility has positioned him to impact Afro-pop and the Reggae/Dancehall music with his dynamic talents, sound, and lyrics. This soulful crooner, blends his unique voice and vocals with the trendy sounds of afro beat highlighted african music salad that we are listening to currently. He projects his aspirations and experiences in his lyrics. Kirz was born Macdonald Chidozie Okeke into a family of eight , and spent his early upbringing in Imo state, Nigeria. To provide him more opportunities, his family relocated to Lagos. This was the place and communities which gave Kirz his early taste of humility and his love for music. This humble beginning of city living brought on the energy and ethics of survival which was turned into the boost for his yearning to reach the top in his musical adventures. Kirz developed himself by listening to various genres and styles of music, movie soundtracks as well as working in various music studios as a Songwriter, Back-up artiste and the arduous task of recording engineer
In 2017, Kirz won the Docdeff Beat Killer Contest, his career took off exposing him to different platforms and opportunities of performing at many concerts and festivals in Lagos, and never lost his eyes for the prize as he toiled through the daily living of hardships in one of the most competitive cities of the world. The pursuit of his dreams as an Internationally recognized Afro/Dancehall Artist kicked off after his collaborative work with various international artistes, producers and sound engineers from Jamaica, Haiti, Saint Vincent and Grenada ,as well as the United States of America. He released his first major single titled “Bad Condition”, which gave him the wind to continue his trek and this was the single which built the high anticipation for things to come. In 2018, Kirz dropped two songs, “Pray for Me” and ”Far Away” which really thrilled his fans as the rest of the world music community awaited for more to solidify his acceptance globally. In 2019, Kirz released another single “Freedom”, which was produced by Jahboot who is one of producers for world dancehall icon Popcaan.
In 2019, he also released another single titled ”Party Boy” produced by Blacka Kartel (Vybez Kartel’s producer). Kirz’s other songs include the Dancehall version of Beyonce’s “Brown Skin Girl “. His most recent release titled “Gold Digger “on the Manatee Records Label, is igniting the fire needed by Kirz to lift off to new heights. Manatee Records, established in the early 90’s with distribution offices in Chicago, Kingston, and London , played a major upstart infusion to the main labels during that era. Today the label has a seat in the music communities in Chicago, New York, Jamaica, Belize and as far as London and Paris. With the fast moving dispersal of Afro Beat music, the label is ahead of the pack with teams in Nigeria, Gambia and Ghana to curate the sound of the artists from those particular states. Kirz has more projects on deck and is currently pushing the limits for an upcoming EP dedicated to his fans. His songs have blazed a trail across the globe from the streets of West Africa to the coast of North America. This Artiste is out to set records and make history, so look out for Kirz.
